Should You Tip Your Uber Driver
So many people are wondering about Uber’s tipping policy. Tip Uber driver or not to tip – or as a driver should I accept the tip.

The truth is, Uber does not require riders to tip the drivers! According to Uber – since drivers take more than half of the earnings, it’s not required. We also think this is a great selling point also, you know – the whole cashless experience thingy.
However, you will not get your account banned if you did decide to tip your driver either. Just know it’s not required, so do not get scammed into thinking it’s policy to tip the driver.
Tipping Via The App
At this time, you cannot tip your driver via the app. If you provide your driver with a tip, you will have to do so by paying him or her with cash. Update: Uber now encourages tipping your driver if they did a good job. All cities should have the option via the app so you can add a tip now. If this option is available to you, you will be able to leave a tip when you rate the driver at the end of your ride.
Uber TAXI Tipping
The only exception to this rule is for TAXI drivers. If UBER TAXI is available in your city, and you decide to take the TAXI cab option, please understand that the app is automatically setting the default 20% gratuity of the metered fare. But this can be adjusted by logging into your online account!
Drivers Can Ask For A Tip
If you are a driver, you should not be asking riders for TIPS. Uber forbids this and you are risking getting your account terminated. Since Uber does not employ drivers, they ARE allowed to ask riders for a tip. At one point, Uber would advise drivers that they should not be asking riders for tips, but this has changed. Drivers can request tips.
Just understand that requesting a rider for a tip can result in a low rating. Most riders do not like being asked for a tip. They typically will complain bitterly to Uber and leave you a low rating. An alternative is instead of asking for a tip, you can put a tip jar in your vehicle for riders.
Always if a rider insists on tipping you – then, by all means, take it, you deserve it. You want to avoid taking cash outside of the system for anything other than a tip. Make sure the rider understands that they are providing you a tip, but this does not cover their trip fare.
Tip Jars and QR Codes
Drivers are allowed to have a tip jar in their vehicles. Actually, having a tip jar usually increases the daily tips they receive from riders. If you are a driver, another option is to give your riders a touch-free tipping option. PayPal will give you a scannable code that will allow your riders to tip using the PayPal app on their own device. So head over to PayPal and generate your unique QR code, print it out, and hang it somewhere in your car so riders can scan and tip.
