Rider Question: ★Does Uber Work 24 Hours?: More and more riders are asking about the availability of Uber in their city. Today we are going to talk a bit about that.
Answer: We understand that the availability of safe and reliable transportation to get around is essential in almost every city around the world.
☛The GOOD: The Uber service app is actually open for business and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you’re requesting on a particularly early morning, you should open the app at least 15-30 minutes before you’re ready to head out to check on ETAs (Estimates Time of Arrival) in your area and make sure there are drivers available in your area with low ETA.
Reservations
At one time Uber was only a strictly on-demand service and no one was able to setup any reservation in advance.
Well, time has changed because now many cities can schedule uberX rides up to 30 days in advance. There is no additional cost to use this feature and you cancel within the normal cancellation policy without occurring any fee. If this option is available in your city you will be able to see it via the app.
For all others who do not have that option, please know that Uber is doing the best that they can to make sure that drivers are always ready to take trip requests, all year round – including holidays and during bad weather.
Check The App
Again, we suggest checking the app a little bit in advance of when you’re ready to be picked up. The app will show you approximately how far away the closest Uber driver is, and then you can request the car so that it arrives to fit your needs.
☛The BAD: There is a possibility (depending on where you are located) that there will be NO Ubers available to take you to your destination. This is normally an issue in smaller, newly launched cities.
Why No Cars Available?
This can happen either because there’s only a few drivers on the road at the time and they are all busy taking other riders, or there is just no drivers on the road at all at that time. This is rare, but we have seen this to happen many, many times early in the wee hours of the morning. 
Like between the hours of 2:00 a.m – 6:00 a.m. But again, these were much smaller cities.
Is Uber Really 24/7?
We know you might be thinking, how is this possible if Uber claims to be open 24/7?
Well see.
Drivers are not employed by Uber.
Uber only provides the app so drivers and riders can connect. Just because the app is always open and available for business doesn’t mean that there will always be a driver online to take trip requests.
Since drivers are only independent contractors that set their own hours, Uber cannot mandate or enforce drivers on the road. They can encourage them by offering incentives or whatnot, but the ultimate decision is that of the driver.
Technical Issues
Tech problems with the Uber app comes to mind when we think about what else could potentially cause a person to think that there are no cars available in their area. To make sure you are not getting the no cars available error due to tech issues, we recommend you do a little troubleshooting here. Log completely out of the app and turn your device off for a few seconds. Then, re-try. This will give your app a good refresh, reboot.
This normally will do the trick if you are having issues with the app. If that didn’t work – next, make sure you have the correct app version. You can find your app version by tapping on the 3 lines in the upper left hand corner and at the very bottom you should see something like v3.225.3. Then, go to your app store and find the Uber app and make sure it’s the must up-to-date version.

If you have some time to spare and is not in a rush to leave, we recommend that you re-open your app ever 5-10 minutes to check for any drivers in your area. If that fails, the best thing to do here is to have a back up plan. You should always have a list of other transportation options on hand just in case Uber do not work out. This is really important for time-sensitive traveling need like to the airport.
