Uber Charged Me For A Ride I Didn’t Take
Rider Issue: ★ Uber Charged Me For A Ride I Didn’t Take ★
Answer: This can be a really complicated issue.
❶ Did you not request an Uber ride (at all) and you were mysteriously charged?
❷ Did you request an Uber, but didn’t take the ride or maybe someone else took your Uber?
☛ If you claim you didn’t request the Uber, Uber system is pretty smart at figuring out if the trip was requested from a device on your account or not. Have you ever signed in to your Uber account from a friend or family member’s phone before?
If you have, Uber is able to see this and can see if this particular trip was requested from their device. In that case, Uber will not be refunding this charge. Instead, they will change your password so all unauthorized devices will be forced logged out.
Uber will also try matching your trip pick-up and drop-off locations against pass trips. This is also an indication that the trip was taken by someone you likely know. Again, Uber will not be refunding you under these circumstances. Sorry.
☛ If you requested the trip and didn’t take it or someone else stole your Uber. Then, Uber will refund you your money. Uber can determine by their trip data if the trip was taken or not. In some cases they will even reach out to the driver to investigate further. All in all, this is an issue that is almost always refunded unless you have been making fraudulent claims like this before. If so, you can expect to be banned and no refund given.
Remember if you requested an Uber and did not take it for whatever reason please, please cancel the trip. Do not wait for the driver to do it. This will avoid you getting billed for someone else ride if they took your Uber and this will prevent the driver from wrongfully starting the trip you are not on!
