👶Uber Car Seat Policy
Answer: Technically, Uber doesn’t have any specific car seat policy. Drivers are NOT required to carry a car seat in their vehicle. However, riders are welcomed to bring theirs alone if they would like.
Remember. You can always call your driver after you have requested a ride and ask do he or she has a car seat already available. Just know that it’s not mandatory by Uber for them to have one available.
Some cities have the UberFAMILY option where there’s a guarantee that your driver will come with a car seat in their vehicle already.
It’s only available in NYC, Philadelphia and Washington DC at the time of this article. There’s currently NO Uber Family Boston nor Uber Family Chicago or any other US city that we are aware of.
However, this could change at anytime.
If you do decide to book UberFAMILY just know there is a $10 surcharge. Some states will allow for-hire vehicles like Uber to be exempt from the car seat law. Meaning the parent can hold the child in their lap and don’t need a car seat. But that will be something you will have to looking up yourself by searching local car sat laws in your city.
If you would like to let your child ride in your lap instead of a car seat, please understand that this is between you and your driver, Uber does not have a policy on this. But, they do recommend you follow your local regulations and laws.
If you order UberFamily and your driver shows up without a car seat, you could cancel that driver and re-request a new one. If you get a cancellation fee in result of canceling, please contact Uber so this fee can be refunded. Even if you are not charged a fee, you should still notify Uber that the driver is not equipped with a car seat.
That way, Uber can follow-up with the driver and take them off UberFamily if necessary. Riders are Uber’s eyes and ears, please report these sort of incidents. This will allow Uber to keep only the best drivers on the road.
