If you cannot log in, then tap ‘Help’ within the app and select ‘Unable to Sign In’ and ‘Forgot my Password’. If you do not have access to the app, you can go to riders.uber.com – enter your email address or mobile number, hit ‘Next’ and select ‘Forgot Password’. You can also go directly here.

Why Was My Account Hacked?

Forgot To Sign-out

We can’t be 100% certain what caused the hack, but most of the time an account becomes compromised because the account holder forgot to sign-out of their account when they were using someone else device. Or perhaps their phone was stolen or they sold their phone to someone and didn’t sign-out and delete the app.

Fake Emails

There are also hackers out there that will send out phishing emails and trick the person who opens the email in to giving out their personal account information.

Bad Links

Your account could also be hacked if you made a mistake and clicked on a malicious link. These types of links (similar to the emails) are designed to trick a person in thinking they are signing into their Uber account, but actually it’s a spammy website.

Can The Hackers Get My Credit Card Info I Have On File?

Your credit card info is secure in your Uber account. The reason why is because your card info is NOT visible, the last 4 digits only. But not the entire card number nor the expiration date. So if someone say that their credit card info was stolen off their Uber account – this is not possible. Even Uber do not have access to your info.

Will Uber Refund My Money If My Account Is Hacked?

This is neither a yes or no answer. It’s a case by case type of thing. If you think you can write in to Uber and say refund me because my account was compromised and a refund will be given just like that. Think again.

Uber will comb through your account and any related account(s) and investigate your claims before any refunds will be issued. And yes, they can pretty much tell if an account was really compromised or not.

Sometimes a rider’s account is not “technically” hacked, but a friend or family member used the account and was not authorized to do so. You will not be refunded for this.

Disputing With Your Bank

You could dispute the charge(s) with your bank, however, that will not remove the charge(s) from Uber. Therefore your account will become disable until the money is payed back. Any new accounts you try to create will be immediately disabled too.
