How To File Uber Taxes

Question: How to file Uber taxes?

2017 Update: If you are a driver or ex-driver that worked in 2016, Uber will provide you with a 1099-K or 1099-MISC form. This is the form that will show the income you have earned with the rideshare company.

Depending on the type of payment you received, you might receive one or both of these forms. According to Uber, the 1099-K reports your payments you received from 3rd party transactions and 1099-MISC is for those who have made $600 or more. A lot of drivers opt for doing their taxes themselves through an online software like Turbo Tax. You can save much more money doing it yourself. Please use caution when choosing a tax professional. There are a lot of misleading scams going around, we touched on that matter a little bit here.

When To File

Since you are an independent contractor, you are responsible for filing your own taxes because no taxes were withheld during the year.
