Does Uber Have Insurance|Are You Safe With The Mega Rideshare?
Answer: Surprisingly, Uber holds at least a $1 million rideshare insurance coverage on Uber drivers vehicles through James River Insurance Company. This policy does not apply to professional drivers operating under the uberBLACK, Livery and TAXI partnership as these partners carry their own commercial auto policy.
If you are an Uber driver, the insurance is only active when you are driving on the Uber platform. When you are offline you are not covered by Uber. So if you are in any kind of accident, you cannot file against their policy.
▸When you are in the ‘available’ mode waiting to get a ding for a pickup request, Uber insurance provides you with Liability (If needed) plus $50K Injury/$100K Total/$25K Property coverage.
Important Note: If Uber insurance policy covers the damages on your vehicle, you are responsible for paying the $1000 deductible out of your own pocket no matter whose at fault.
Additionally, if a rider writes in and say that they was in an accident with you, you can expect to get a phone call from Uber. It’s routine for Uber to collect additional information and therefore they will ask you to complete their Incident Report Form.
No matter whose at fault or if you plan on filing under their insurance or not, you will need to return the incident report to them asap. If you do not, they can temporarily deactivate your account. With that being said, make sure you are reporting any accidents regardless.
▸Riders are covered when they are inside an Uber no matter what. So you shouldn’t worry, you are in good insurance hands.
▸Drivers are covered at $1 million when they are actually driving on the rideshare platform. If an accident occur, we encourage drivers to be proactive and complete the incident report form and send it over to Uber asap. This will help speed up the process tremendously.
