💼Does Uber Allow Luggage?
2018 Update: Yes, of course you can bring your things along; there’s no specific policy in place either! But there are some best practices we will go over today with you. All of the available Uber vehicle options should have trunk space available.
Uber is not for moving goods or furniture, it’s here to accommodate you and your personal luggage and bags.
However, if you would like to use a standard uberX (typically hold 4 people), it would probably be a good idea to call your driver ahead of time to ensure that there will be enough room for your bags.
Now be mindful that the number of luggage pieces you can bring into an Uber ride will depend on the size of your pieces. Again, we recommend contacting your driver directly after the pickup has been accepted to communicate any special accommodations.
Below we have grouped together some of the vehicle options Uber has available to give you an idea of what to expect.
Chart To Help Determine Vehicle Option
|uberX: The low-cost option. Can hold up to 4 riders, but if you got luggage it’s better suited for 1 or 2 passengers plus luggage.||uberXL: This option can accommodate up to 6 riders as this is the low-cost SUV option. We recommend 3 or 4 riders + multiple bags|
|UberSELECT: A step up from uberX. These are premium sedans that can hold up to 4 riders. Again, if you got luggage it wouldn’t be a good idea to take 3 or 4 riders + luggage.||UberSUV: This is the Big Brother of UberBLACK. These drivers are also professional licensed and drive high-end SUVs that seats up to 6 passengers. We recommend 3 or 4 riders + multiple bags|
|UberBLACK: These drivers are professional licensed driving high-end luxury sedans. UberBLACK can only carry 4 riders. Therefore you may take 1 or 2 riders + plus your belongings.||uberASSIST: These drivers are trained to assist passengers with accessibility needs. Some cities have uberX & uberXL ASSIST available. When requesting this vehicle option and you have bags too, please follow the 1-2 or 3-4 recommendation.|
One option we forgot to mention in the chart is UberPOOL. If you are riding solo and decide to take this vehicle type, please keep in mind that you will be sharing this ride with others along the way. We recommend you only take 1 or 2 bags.
There is always a small possibility that your driver will not be able to accommodate you. If that happens, you should simply cancel the trip and request another Uber if you would like.
In a prefect world your driver should always arrive with a cleaned out car and prepared to handle your luggage, but certainly this will not always be the case. So it’s best to give the driver a call or shoot them a text message letting them know upfront about your needs. This will keep you from wasting your time.
If you would like to be picked up by an Uber from the airport here are some tips.
■ Collect your luggage from the baggage claim area before requesting an Uber.
■ If you are traveling alone or with one other person, then an UberX or another option that’s available for up to 4 riders will be fine. Unless you have a massive amount of baggage.
■ If you are traveling with more people, then you should consider the SUV option.
■ Worst case here is that you might have to request more than one Uber if you have a large group + luggage. If you do need to request another Uber, you will have to let another adult within the group request it from their device. Because you cannot request more than one Uber at a time. If that person do not have an account with Uber, provide them with your invite code so they get their ride free or almost free depending on the cost and you will earn a free ride. Win-win situation.
■ Once you have figured all of this out. Go ahead and request your Uber(s). Most airports have a designated area for pickup. The Uber app will normally tell you where this area is or it will be posted somewhere in the airport. You will need to make your way to that area or level asap.
Sometimes (depending on the airport you are at) the app will ask you to select the terminal location and which door you want the driver to meet you at.
■ Understand the driver cannot wait for you no longer than 5 minutes. That’s why you shouldn’t request the ride until you are 100% ready to go.
■ Your driver may text or call you to confirm your whereabouts. Or, you should contact them if you have any concerns.
